Why use PowerPoint In the Classroom?

PowerPoint is a wonderful tool for learning in both a student and teacher-directed situation. It can add a new dimension to learning allowing teachers to explain abstract concepts, while accommodating all learning styles. Used properly, PowerPoint can be one of the most powerful tools for presenting new and old information ever known. Students of the new age technology are more tuned into the media presentations and pay attention longer therefore learn more information in a non lecture setting.

I agree... Remember the days of trying to take notes from old smudged overheads. PP has made our presentations so awesome. I love to insert audio and video files too.

I agree! Depending on the situation, it is also nice to print the notes page for students with the slide information. Then ask students to add additional information from lecture or class discussion beyond what is on the slides.

I viewed a website that used power point as a method of improving student's ability to remember sight words. Each sight word was listed on a slide - the students went through the slide show together or alone and practiced the words - - so much for using flash cards - get rid of that paper and go electronic.

What I really like about using PowerPoint as an instructional tool is when you can find the resource created by somebody else previously. I use PowerPoint presentions as a study tool and the process can be rather extensive.

I agree that PowerPoint is a powerful tool to use in the classroom. Do you ever find yourself torn between time constraints.... trying to weigh whether it would be more time efficient to create a cool PowerPoint or grade papers.... or have supper with your family?
That seems to be my biggest stumbling block with PowerPoint. Just the amount of time it takes to organized an effective, worthwhile PP presentation.
